"Forest Fire" wins Elite Division at Utah SPPL Qualifier

Team Forest Fire won first place in the Elite Division in the 2008 Utah SPPL Qualifier, while Desert Edge captured both first and second in the Masters Division. In the Rookie Division, BlackLight Company took home first place honors.

In spite of snow showers Thursday before the event, perfect spring weather greeted players for competitive woodsball action at the famous SpecOps Retribution field just outside Salt Lake City, Utah on May 2 and 3. The SPPL (Scenario Paintball Players’ League) is in full swing, and 13 teams showed up two compete in the second event of the tournament series, battling for more than $15,000 worth of prizes in the Masters and Elite Division and trophies and medallions for the Rookies.

In the Finals, Forest Fire took on veteran team Run, who saw Tom Cole, Steve Paige, and Dale “Pegleg” Price all guesting on the team during the weekend. The win was especially significant to Forest Fire, who had lost a member of their paintball family, U.S. Marine Dustin Canham, just a few months prior.

As in every SPPL event, sportsmanship was the order of the day both on and off the field. In a sportsmanship vote by the players, nearly every team received a significant amount of votes. The Sportsmanship Award, equal in value to the first place prize package, went to Feel the Paint, recognized for their honesty, positive attitude, and fun-loving nature. Several players also recognized the head refs and team Bad Karma for the exemplary job they did reffing on the rough terrain of the Retribution Field.

The sun had nearly set on the mountain by the time promoter Jayson Nielson finished handing out prizes, congratulating teams and thanking the refs, sponsors and his staff. The SPPL is sponsored by Tippmann, Special Ops Paintball, Smart Parts, Planet Eclipse, Maddmann Paintball, APE/Rampage, Stiffi, VForce, DraXxus, QLoader, Tiberius Arms, Blast Radius Woodsball Podcast and RECON, the Magazine of Woods Paintball.

The Winners:
Rookie:
1st - BlackLight Company
2nd - Suicide Kings
3rd - Feel the Paint

Masters:
1st - Desert Edge Yin
2nd - Desert Edge Yang
3rd - Montana Inertia

Elite:

2nd - Run

Vibe and SP-1 Get Select Fire

The affordable high-performance Vibe and SP-1 electropneumatic paintball markers from Smart Parts now feature select-fire capability.

Loyalhanna, PA – February 8, 2008 – It's no surprise that since their launch in October of 2007, the Vibe and SP-1 have gained incredible popularity. Both of these new markers from Smart Parts deliver high-end true-electropneumatic performance at a price that is
affordable to first time players.

A hammer-free design lets the Vibe and SP-1 shoot fast without the accuracy-robbing shake and vibration found in competing paintguns.  The low-pressure operation and the relief valve in the Max-Flo R vertical regulator allow these markers to  perform with compressed air, or more affordable CO2 which is perfect for the player who is just getting started, or who wants true-electropneumatic performance in their mil-sim marker.

While originally released in a semi-automatic only version, Smart Parts, Inc. is proud to announce that the Vibe and SP-1 are now multi-mode markers.  In select-fire mode, players can cycle between single-shot, 3-shot burst and full-automatic firing at the touch of a button, right in the middle of the game. When tournament or field rules require it, these markers can be switched into tournament-legal semi-automatic mode. In this mode, they are hardware locked and deliver one, and only one, shot per trigger pull.

“Using the select fire mode has been fantastic,” said Smart Parts Sales Representative Sean Scott. As the captain of the Smart Corps Factory Team, Scott puts paintball tactics and equipment to the test in the real world, helping bring home the team's second consecutive national Scenario Paintball Player's League Championship with the SP-1. “There are times when full-auto is great, but then there are times when I need that perfect single shot during the same game, the select fire modes give me the flexibility to choose on the fly. Most other markers lock down into a single mode only, requiring tools to make a change. With our new select fire mode, I can go from full-auto back to semi with one button press, but when we play at a field that's semi-only, I can open my grip with a hex wrench and lock it down to 100-percent field legal.”

Multi-mode operation is now included in all newly manufactured Vibe and SP-1 markers and as a free upgrade for existing Vibe and SP-1 paintguns. Owners of single-mode Vibe and SP-1 electropneumatic markers are encouraged to either visit SmartParts.com or call Smart Parts Technical Support at 800-992-2147 to request an RMA number for their upgrade.  When the upgrade is complete, customers will be called to arrange return shipping payment.

Shipping charges can be avoided by bringing the marker to a major paintball event with Smart Parts factory tech support such as the PSP or SPPL tournaments throughout the 2008 season.

Select fire mode will not be available in the UK, Australia or any other country where the law restricts markers to semi-automatic operation.

Smart Parts, Inc., is a leading developer and manufacturer of equipment and accessories for the sport of paintball. For more information on the Vibe and SP-1, visit SmartParts.com.

SPPL to Host 2008 New York Event

Cousins Paintball in Plattekill to host New York Qualifier

The SPPL has selected one of the world's most historic paintball fields as the site of the 2008 New York Qualifier Event. The New York Qualifier will be held July 26 – 27, 2008 at Cousins Paintball in Plattekill , New York.

Formerly Survival NY, Cousins Paintball in Plattekill is one of the longest-running paintball fields in the country. It was the site of the first major open class, big prize money tournament, called the Air Pistol Open, in 1987, and in 1990, hosted the first World Cup. More than $80,000 in cash prizes were awarded at that 15-man woodsball competition. Today's 10-man SPPL teams can look forward to giant prize packages, as well, including a Sportsmanship Award equal to the first place winnings.

Cousins Plattekill is hailed as the best woodsball environment in New York , with 300 acres of rolling hills, rock walls, ridges/valleys and streams. Conveniently-located near the highway and many major hotel chains, and less than 2 miles away from campgrounds, the field offers players all the amenities they desire.

“Legendary teams like the Master Blasters, the Ironmen, and Ground Zero all played 10-man tournaments here back in paintball's early days,” says field manager Chris Masi. “It's great to be going back to those roots with a major competition. Cousins Paintball is honored to host a woodsball tournament here again.”

SPPL President Jayson Nielson is equally excited. “Players have been waiting for an SPPL Qualifier in this region for a long time. Cousins Paintball is known across the country for its first-class customer service and commitment to the sport of paintball. The SPPL looks forward to making tournament history at this world-famous field!”

* Please note: The NY Qualifier replaces the PA Qualifier, which was cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.

For more information or to register for the NY Qualifier, call Jayson Nielson, 801.209.5140 or e-mail Jayson@playsppl.com .

All Scenario Calendars Updated for 2008!

SPPL Introduces Divisional Play, National Rankings

The SPPL woodsball tournament league has always put players first. In 2008, to make the league even more fun for new players while offering veterans the challenge they crave, the SPPL introduces DIVISIONAL PLAY! This change is a natural step in the growth of the premier woodsball tournament league and a direct response to requests from the players.

“Now, even beginning players who've never done anything but rec-ball can sign up in the Rookie Division and have the chance to become champions in their own right,” says league President Jayson Nielson. “We've always been a player-friendly league. The players  asked for divisional play, and we came up with a system that will work for woodsball players of every level.” SPPL teams will fall into one of three classifications: Elite, Masters and Rookie.

SPPL Elite Player —Any player who has been rostered as an Elite Player in more than one SPPL Major Event/Qualifier or was rostered on a 7-player NPPL Pro or Semi-Pro team or NXL Professional team or PSP X-Ball Open Class team within the previous 5 years or any player who has placed in the top two at any SPPL Major Event /Qualifier would be classified Elite. SPPL Masters Player — Any player who has competed in more than one SPPL Major Event/Qualifier in a previous season. SPPL Rookie Player— Any player who has not played in more than one SPPL Major Event/Qualifier in the prior season, and has no major National Tournament (PSP, NXL or NPPL) experience at any level. A Rookie SPPL team may have 2 Masters players on their roster. A Masters SPPL team is permitted to have 2 Elite players on their roster. To enforce division classifications, the SPPL will issue a photo player ID card , like those used in the NPPL and PSP tournament leagues, to every competitor.

The introduction of divisional play is just one of many refinements to the scenario tournament league this season. The SPPL will also implement a National Rankings structure based on each team's performance at SPPL Major Qualifier Events and the Grand Championship. Teams will earn points based on their ranking at each event and will have the opportunity to earn additional points by organizing authorized SPPL Feeder Tournaments at their home fields. The league has also introduced a handful of rules changes, a new pricing structure and tons of new prizes at the Elite and Masters  levels. “For about the same price as a day of rec-ball,” Nielson says, “players can enjoy a first-class tournament experience, with the chance to win trophies or prizes and earn a spot in the national rankings.” Nielson urges players to get their ID cards now and start gearing up for the 2008 season, which starts with the Southeast Qualifier at Low Country Paintball on March 15 – 16. For more information, contact Jayson Nielson at jayson@playsppl.com or 801.209.5140.

Smart Parts Releases the SP-1

The new Smart Parts SP-1 Tactical marker delivers true electropneumatic performance combined with rugged scenario/milsim styling at a surprisingly affordable price.

Loyalhanna , PA – October 23, 2007 – With the release of the SP-8, Smart Parts redefined tactical paintball markers.  A paintgun for the serious woods, scenario or milsim player didn't have to rely on early 1990s hammer and valve performance to operate.  Now high-end electropneumatic operation has become even more versatile and affordable with the SP-1 Tactical Marker.

The SP-1 is more than just a marker, it is an affordable launchpad allowing players to build their own high-performance custom tactical machine. “It's simply amazing,” said Sean Scott. As both a Smart Parts wholesale specialist and member of the reigning national scenario challenge champions, the Smart Corps factory team, Scott is no stranger to the needs of today's woods oriented paintball player. “It's amazing to me,” he said, “that players who prefer mil-sim styling have had so few marker options that really take advantage of modern paintball technology. The SP-1 is changing that completely. Not only is it bringing high-end performance to the woods, but it's doing it at a price new players can afford.”

At the core of the SP-1 Tactical Marker lies the tremendously successful Ion bolt and valve system, with maintenance that is easier than ever before.  An all-new quick-strip bolt sleeve unscrews from the back of the SP-1 allowing the bolt stop and bolt to be removed. Amazingly that is all that needs to be done for regular maintenance and cleaning.

The SP-1 bolt is controlled by Smart Parts exclusive micro solenoid valve and circuit board, allowing it to deliver recoil-free, quiet and consistent shooting that is impossible with its hammer and spring powered blowback competitors – even those with “electro grips.”

A removable trigger guard gives SP-1 Tactical owners the option of sticking with the stock single trigger for a pure milsim look, or switching to a two finger trigger and guard for increased rates of fire.

Key to the SP-1 Tactical's performance is the new Max-Flo R vertical regulator.  Not only does this regulator provide optimal stability and flow with compressed air, but its integrated relief valve provides the solenoid valve and internal components with complete protection from the damaging pressure spikes associated with liquid CO2.  The Max-Flo R allows the player to choose between high-end compressed air systems or low-cost CO2 tanks capable of delivering more shots per fill.

Six tactical rails on the SP-1 Tactical's top and sides allow for limitless placement of sights, night-vision scopes, grips, risers and other tactical accessories. Its integrated tactical flashlight mount allows instant use of off-the shelf compact flashlights at a fraction of the cost of traditional tactical lights, and automatically aligns them perfectly with a barrel so they can even be used as a sighting system. Integrated mount points in the marker's rear also allow for the mounting of full length and telescoping stocks.

All of these features don't weigh the SP-1 down though. Its machined aluminum inner receiver is encased by a body and grip frame that are manufactured from firearms grade glass-fiber reinforced nylon, giving the marker lightweight maneuverability combined with military durability.

The Smart Parts SP-1 Tactical provides true low-pressure, electropneumatic operation in a package that is fully CO2 compatible and is as inexpensive as an entry-level mechanical blowback semi-auto paintgun. Smart Parts is tailoring its high-end technology to the needs of milsim and scenario players because we believe that players should get more for their money, and we believe that equipment counts.
