North Vs. South and FEAR
at Paintball Central Greenville and Greensboro
On back-to-back weekends in the Carolinas, Paintball Central, the largest retail store and playing park chain in the region, hosted two scenario games at two seperate fields. This mammoth undertaking, while not exactly easy on the Paintball Central staff, drew over 200 players to PBC's newest park, Paintball Central Greenville, South Carolina and PBC's oldest park, Paintball Central Greensboro, North Carolina. With numerous celebrity players and regional teams in attendance and great storylines, both scenarios were successful, enjoyable events for Paintball Central and their customers.
The first of the two scenario games, a US Civil War-based game entitled "North vs South" was held at the new and still under-construction Paintball Central Sports Park Greenville, in South Carolina on May 31. While the park was still under construction, the staff of Paintball Central worked dilligently to prepare the facility for the game with plenty of bunkers, earthworks, trenches, mounds and trails throughout the wooded portion of the field, while the actual business infrastructure of the park would be temporarily handled from several large trucks and tents.
Numerous tents were set up in the recently cleared staging area allowing players to relax in the shade, a necessity as temperatures soared into the nineties on game day. To add a special touch to the day, local radio station 93.3 The Planet made an appearance at the game, as did the US Army and the US Marine Corps. On the field, game play flowed back and forth with both teams seeing plenty of one-another's end of the field. The hard work put in by PBC staff paid off, as the field played very well from end to end, and side to side. By the end of the day it was clear that the South had risen again, as they completed missions, eliminated the North's general and held a commanding lead throughout the day.
The following weekend, Paintball Central took their scenario show back to their first and oldest playing park in Greensboro, North Carolina. A long-standing park with full plumbing, plenty of staging and a lavish wooded field complete with large forts, bunkers, a creek and all the foilage a sniper could want, PBC's Greensboro park is quickly gaining a following among scenario players who enjoy the facility and its amenities.
As a special treat for the F.E.A.R.-titled game in Greensboro, Greg Hastings, longtime pro player and creator of the Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball line of wildly successful paintball video games made the trip to play in the game as a part of his 2008 Tour of Duty, alongside other local celebrities such as Tyler Humphrey, John Tinker and Ken Barrett. The story of the event was the heat, as temperatures climbed to nearly 100 degrees. Die hard players stayed hydrated and stuck it out, roving across acres of rolling Carolina woods with teams like the Wolverines playing a large role in the game.
By the end of the afternoon, most of the players had finally succumbed to the heat and headed for more air conditioned places, but the remainder enjoyed prize drawings for gear including Proto SLG guns and a team picture with Greg Hastings. The game was a close one throughout the day, but after an intense final battle played on Paintball Central's legendary mounds field, the victory was awarded to the FEAR team, who were victorious over Fettel's Battallion, and the exhausted players and field staff headed home.
